Images from the lava flow from the 2018 Kīlauea Volcano 1 year later

After just about 1 year on the island, Judy and Mike finally traveled to the area hard hit by last year's volcanic eruption. Two new black sand beaches were created by the flow and new growth is springing forth. The cliffs are dramatic and the water very rough. An impressive trip and well worth seeing to appreciate the power of nature. MacKenzie State Recreation area has steep cliffs of fresh lava that erupted into the ocean. Isaac Hale Park is a new black sand beach that changed the prior park and beach. Highway 137 runs between the areas and is right along the water; the road was seriously impacted by lava flows. The final images are from the new black sand beach at Kalapana. Kalapana is an interesting little area with stores, food, souvenirs and an art gallery.

More information on the eruption can be obtained at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C4%ABlauea.
