A long overdue update

Much as happened since our last blog post. We have a new president and vice president, our democracy has been attacked in a way never before seen or contemplated by the founding fathers, our lovely cat, Lucy, had to be put down, and, because of the poor quality of medical care on this island, we have decided to move back to California and sell the Hawaii house.

This past week has been stormy here on the big island. We went down to a beach to watch the ginormous waves. These are some of the results. Please enjoy.

Our cat, Lucy, had irritable bowel syndrome since we got her 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it was a long, slow decline and finally when our 7 pound cat shrunk to 5 pounds, was clearly in pain and not eating, we knew it was time. Poor Hamilton was beside himself for a few days when Lucy did not come home with us.

We made the decision to sell the house around thanksgiving time and spent weeks moving items out of the house into a storage unit. It feels like we are living in a model home. The house went on the market on January 7. We had an accepted offer 10 days later. This is a link to property photos plus a 360 degree tour of the house:  https://show.tours/76-938hualalaird?b=0.

Our realtor told us that the average amount of time to sell a house is 30+ days from listing to accepted offer. Not true here. We were anticipating a bit longer transition time. However, the escrow is now scheduled to close March 3. Our home in Concord will be available to us June 1. So we are trying to determine where we will be cooling our heels. Judy is scheduled to get her first vaccination on Monday, 1/25. Hopefully, Mike will be at most a few weeks behind. But, we are not leaving the big island (only 2 cases reported today) until we are both vaccinated. The logistics are challenging but we will work it through.

We look forward to seeing our family and friends upon our return--obviously with appropriate mask wearing and social distancing. Even though we will have been vaccinated, we understand that we can still carry the virus--which we don't want to do. So we will continue to practice safe health behaviors.

Hopefully, by the end of summer, we can all be together again safely. And, perhaps, the economy will even open up like it is supposed to. We look forward to seeing all of you sooner than later. But, 2021 is going to be a much better year than 2020 was.

Love

Judy and Mike
