Warm and Rainy Season, 2200 pound glue lams, and more trips to the mainland

The warm season (also coinciding with late spring/early summer) is also the rainy season. And we have had some serious downpours. Because the roof was not completed enough to be waterproof, Judy and I did a great deal of vacuuming water up from the downstairs area. The water accumulated enough that the crew nicknamed the lockable tool storage room downstairs "the aquarium." Well, as of this week, no more! The gluelams (2200 pounds each) got put in place using a crane, the tongue and groove wood ceailing was finished, and the tar paper has been installed. And, of course, as soon as the roof was made waterproof, the rain stopped. The metal roof (raised seam) will be installed this coming Tuesday.

Once the glue lams were in place, then the tongue and groove ceiling was installed. It looks vey nice. And, to celebrate the summer solstice, we had a picnic on our lanai. Our very first. Mike took scraps of glue lams and made a makeshift table. Judy wants him to cobble together what he did as a base for a round glass table top.

Judy was on the mainland for about 10 days. The good news: the Watchman procedure was a success and she can now look forward to eventuallly being totally off anticoagulants. YEAH!!!  The harder news is that we have to return to the mainland for her to have an angiogram to determine whether or not she is a canadidate for an intravenous procedure to replace her aortic valve. So, Tuesday (yes, when the metal roof is being installed) we are heading back to the mainland. After the angiogram, we will meet with the team that will tell us whether or not the less invasive procedure to replace her valve can be done. Fingers crossed!

We hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July.

Love

Judy and Mike
