Whales, Women's March and Super Wolf Moon

An event filled week just passed. We went whale watching out of Kailua-Kona on a gorgeous winter (meaning less warm) day. Whales, of course, are hard to film but with perseverence, we got a couple of shots that are worth sharing. The dolphins (both spinner and bottle nose) were fun. The dolphins like to tease the whales and keeping an eye on the dolphins often helped with seeing where a whale might surface.

The view from the boat on this beautiful clear date permitted a nice view of the volcano that we live on:  Hualalai.  The big island is composed of 5 volcanoes and the last eruption of ours was in the early 1800's. In our experience, it has been rare to see Hualalai so clearly without clouds shrowding the top.

This was a week of large surf. The winds were up and the surf was high and dangerous. On the north shore of some of the islands, surfers were out in force. On our island there were some surfers (probably crazy) but the general information was: stay out of the water.

This was the 3rd straight year we have participated in the Women's March. Of course, in Kailua-Kona, the weather is better (the first year was cold and rainy in San Francisco), and the march smaller. However, the people were just as interesting as were the signs. But the need for the Women's March, unfortunately, still needs to occur.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the building inspector. We cannot have the first cement pour until the inspection. This first pour will be 58 cubic yards--6 truck loads of cement coming up to our property. Mike is going to LA on Monday for witness work and will be back on Wednesday. He may miss the pour which will disappoint him. Oh well--there will be 4 more. The site is ready. Those verticle pieces of rebar are for the future retaining wall.

Tonight, we got to see the Super Blood Wolf Moon eclipse. Exciting to see. There were clouds and we had to wait for them to part, but part they did. Success based on being patient. The sunset pictures were done while we ate dinner and waited for moon-rise. Great fun.

The pictures were hand-held as the tripods are in the container.

Health and happiness to one and all. We miss all of you and think often of you.

Love

Judy and Mike
