Week 9, Black Friday to Cyber Monday

We hope everyone had a joyus and thankful holiday. As we went into a few stores this weekend, we heard holiday music playing. Something that seems absolutely out of place in Hawaii. It was a very strange experience. We have posted some pages with pictures on the blog and hope that you will find those fun, interesting, or otherwise entertaining. Please check them out.

The lot is continuing to take shape. Although they will theoretically start forming up for the foundation this week (hope, hope), there is still some more to do to get the lot ready. 2 loads of very large rocks were brought in to build up the north side of the house (the side with the house with the green roof). Mulch will be brought in to cover the lower part that goes from the build up to the neighbor's property--a now relatively flat area that we can begin to plant. Not sure yet what we will plant there. But we have lots of plants in our "nursery" area. We still have the monkeypod tree, but have not put it on the irrigation. Not sure yet what to do with it. We are open to suggestions.

We discovered another new beach. It is at the old airport just north of the main part of Kailua-Kona. They have a wonderful walking/running path with lots of gardens planted. The restrooms even have showers. Once all of our open wounds heal (you know how it is, get little bumps, scratches, and other inconvenient abrasions), we will try it out.

We learned that Hawaii has 2 seasons: warm and less warm. We are in the less warm period now which goes, theoretically, from October through April. Although October did not seem less warm to us.

Judy injured her rotator cuff when she fell on the lava a few weeks back. She has been doing rehab exercises and is getting greater range of motion. It still gets tired, but the recovery is moving in the right direction.

As most of you know, Mike had his second knee replacement in April. This past week he has been able to squat down to look and search in lower cabinets. And, he has been able to squat down to work on the irrigation in the nursery. A very nice change from awkward bending or getting down on all fours.

If you haven't responded to the original email sent out inviting you to join the blog, please do so. We want to make sure you have access to our weekly quips, updates, and pictures.

Have a great week preparing for the upcoming holiday season.
